Giving Back To The Rangitahi - Teaching Financial Literacy
At Whutuporo, we believe that financial literacy is a crucial life skill—one that can empower individuals to take control of their future. In December, two of our team members, Alex and Sam, had the privilege of sharing their knowledge with a group of young people at Odyssey House. This opportunity allowed us to contribute to the community in a meaningful way, and we are truly grateful for the experience.
Odyssey House provides support for young people aged 14 to 18 who have faced challenges with substance misuse and other difficulties. The residents are working hard to build brighter futures, and we were honored to be part of that journey by delivering a presentation on essential financial topics.
The session provided valuable insights into key financial concepts, equipping participants with the knowledge to navigate the financial aspects of adulthood with confidence. Topics such as understanding payslips, budgeting, and handling debt were covered, helping attendees build financial independence and avoid common pitfalls. Discussions also focused on preparing for the transition to independent living and setting financial goals, ensuring these young individuals feel more prepared for the future.
To ensure this valuable information reaches even more people, we have transformed our presentation into a series of engaging short videos, each covering an essential financial topic in a clear and practical way. Whether you or someone you know needs guidance on payslips, tax, budgeting, or moving out, these videos provide easy-to-understand insights that can make a real difference. They are available now on our website—so don’t miss this opportunity to gain useful financial knowledge that can help build a brighter future!
You can find the videos here.
Engaging with the residents of Odyssey House reinforced our belief in the power of education. Financial literacy isn’t just about numbers; it’s about creating opportunities, reducing stress, and fostering independence. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the group made it clear that these lessons have the potential to make a lasting impact. We hope that through our continued efforts, we can empower even more people with the knowledge and confidence to take control of their financial future.
